The Story of 6 - Part 10

Damage control was not an easy thing to do, there were always government agencies trying to find the truth or someone to blame. This one would be easy.

Yesterday at around 4:00pm an electric surge was dedicated that messed with the stability of the atmosphere of Japan. Later at around 9:00pm that same electric surge was detected that triggered an Omni directional dimensional rift which consumed the Empire State Building leaving thousands dead and hundreds wounded.”

“I cannot confirm or negate the possibility of an outside terrorist force. I can, however, say this. The Shadow is a malignant entity and should not be looked at as just a fair criminal. He is a master mind generous, and he is not to be underestimated and undertaken. Neither should we let this accident hinder our great nation.”

“We would say to you terrorists and doers of evil, we will not stand for innocent men and women lost. We will not tolerate any more decimation on American Soil. We, the number corporation of the American People, will not tolerate these acts of terrorism. With the authorization of the President of the Unites States, I say this to you Shadow! There is no rock you can hide under, no hill to hide on, and no place to run. We will find you and bring you to justice!”

The Professor quickly stepped down and returned to the chopper that had brought him to the Empire State Building, ground zero. He had not wanted to make a big speech and rally support for anything, he had just wanted to stress the truth. Evil will not win on this account. Neither would he let it.

In Life Everything Pivots

Lesson One: Find something good

Today EGT did that, made something from what it was to something greater. EGT, a small Entertainment company in Buffalo, New York was given the oppritunity to look at the Microsoft® Live Labs™ Pivot™ application and began to develop "collections" for it.

Pivot is a next-generation internet content browser, wich allows users to look at content as if they were cards and collections (of these 'cards'.) EGT got an opportunity to develop collections for Pivot.

What really caught my attention was the ability to move this image based interface which allows the web to be browsed like a "web" instead of a miscellaneous pool of pages. With EGT Worlds we give you access to special search options to find sites you may want to browse, such as the ability to select only the highest hit or a range of hits, a specific rating or a range of rating, and much more.

EGT opened up each "category" of the social network, EGT Worlds, up for the Pivot browser adding the rating, hits, and descriptions to the collection and was able to get the "cards" recognized by Pivot, with in a matter of moments.

EGT calls the new type of search "EGT worlds CasSearch." ('Cas' for cascading.) To access the pivot part of the site, open the pivot browser and enter 'http://egtworlds.com/pivot' or go to http://egtworlds.com and click in the footer 'Have Pivot?'

I released egtworlds in April 4, 2008, original conception was November, 14, 2007. Its been a rough ride and EGT worlds has cost me endless time and lots of money, but today I went online and saw that someone had actually verified their site with EGT Worlds. They actually took it upon themselves to support EGT Worlds and go through the verification process.

All-through they don't use any of the widgets and virtually no one knows, I know. To me it seemed like a glimmer of hope and prompted me to keep the project up. I was going to drop the project a while ago, and my former partners were with me on it. I just could not throw way almost 3 years of research and development because my partners said so.

Get a sneak peak into the future of EGT Worlds - A new feature: Website Lists

I've been working on getting EGT Worlds ready for prime-time. I can't because EGT worlds is an older site that I have not finished. So coming in the near future EGT Worlds will become MyFave (Oct 7, 2009 was posted at EGT). Which means I get to give EGT Worlds the face lift it deserves.

This new feature sounds cool to me because of the ability to create multiple list pages (that showcase sites, articles, images, videos ...) and give them my own style. Meaning, I could have a blog dedicated to game sites and direct them to a list of HOT RPG games. They'd see it in my own website style... No obtrusive ads!

I hope it will be a good feature to add and incorporate with EGT Worlds.

EGT World's to use IE 8 Engine

EGT World's the Social Network for Websites uses the Internet Explorer 8 Engine to render its pages. In an event to stay with software that has viable support, however plans are going to allow a more complaint browser in the future.

Twitter Spam

I guess you could say I'm not at all impressed at the level of spam in my e-mail inbox, but what I didn't release is Twitter is being spammed as well.

With numerous corporations and organizations gearing their marketing campaigns towards social media, more questionable organizations are flooding twitter and twitters with useless junk.

Since my account set up I have had many direct messages, here's what I discovered.

• 29% of Messages contain links to Pyramid Schemes
• 19% of Messages contain links to other services and social networks
• 19% of Messages are real conversation, by people liking me or replying to a message I had twittered.
• 14% of Messages contain links to other people's website, which I never hear from again.
• 14% of Messages contained to referral linked
• 5% of Messages are from twitter-bots.

Spam is like a virus it migrates and adapts from its form to a newer version that's compatible with the latest service. I can tell you one thing: I've only clicked on 2 maybe 3 links. IT’S NOT WORKING!

EGT Worlds Development on Hault

The partners of EGT, well in their right to do so, have asked EGT to stop developing EGT Worlds. Since the President refuses to let go of EGT Worlds. I quote: "EGT Worlds is the first finished vision of EGT. I am not going to leave it with out giving it a chance to succeed."

EGT Worlds marketing will go in forward drive and we hope to expect major growth in the upcoming months.

EGT might cut its losses with EGT Worlds, EGT told associated press during a partner meeting on Wednesday. The meeting focused on ongoing projects and their relation to the EGT goal and their costs. EGT Worlds just hadn't performed like the President, Justin K Kazmierczak, had first thought. "It's about time we cut our losses and leave this service for a better project."

EGT knew that EGT Worlds, a social network for websites, might not perform as intended for the recent drop in other web portal development. Since early 2000's, when Google was thought to be the only useful web portal and other like sites competing with Google failed.

The President also commented on the costs of EGT Worlds, telling associated press that over 2 grand and 12 hundred dollars had been invested in web hosting alone. These costs may not seem like an alarming number, but for a company that just started in the web service market; major costs like these could kill the new entertainment company.

EGT had not officially committed when the service was to be discontinued, or even if it will be, but you can look forward to an official notice in the next coming months. EGT hopes to learn from their mistakes and keep development on course, for something modern, in the next few months. No comment on the next project, but EGT hinted that they had something up their sleeve.

PHP - Mod Rewrite Quick Lesson

Before reading this blog entry and attempting to perform the same action, make sure that the extension mod_rewrite has been activated on your hosting account or server.

I recently just figured out the Mod Rewrite Plug in. Mod Rewrite always a php apache server to have "user friendly" and "Google Friendly" urls. Instead of a page looking like http://egtworlds.com/turl.php?webid=41 a page could look like this http://egtworlds.com/t/41 much simpler and easy to understand.

In my case I remapped the links to the hosted websites, from being

http://egtworlds.com/mypage.php?type=website&webid=35&webdesc=Poppen.ca - Rock solid web design

To the simple and condensed version:

http://egtworlds.com/website/Poppen.ca - Rock solid web design/35

I'm still having some very small problems, but the jist is the same.

To start go to your root directory, where index.php (or index.html) is for your main site. You should find a file called ".htaccess," if not create it in notepad, and open it in notepad.

Next add the turn - on switch for the rewrite mod,
RewriteEngine on

Next is the Rewrite Base Directory. This is where you want the rewrite mod to start from, in most cases the main directory ("/") in other cases you may just have a huge file-tree that you want to condense like "/people/places/things/after-death/"

IMPORTANT REMEMBER THE BEGINING SLASH, otherwise your rewrite mod will not work.

RewriteBase /

The next step is to start rewriting links, from a freindly link of http://egtworlds.com/website/Poppen.ca - Rock solid web design/35 . Of course its simple:

This is what the mod line looks like, be sure to have each mod on a new line. Including the rewrite base, and turn-on line.

RewriteRule ^website/(.*)/(.*)$ http://egtworlds.com/mypage.php?type=website&webid=$2&webdesc=$1 [L]

BAM! It looks ugly, I know. Take a breather and let me walk with you.

• RewriteRule is just the tag.

The first address is the expression for the link the user clicked on or typed in.

• ^ tells the mod to start from the base, otherwise you can just list from the root directory, base is quicker for most cases.
• website/ is my directory. You could have anything their, from html or whatever. IE My/lovely/website/
• (.*) Indicates a value of unknown length. The first one is the name of my description.
• / anything just a place holder.
• (.*) Yet another value.
• $ IMPORTANT says I'm finished the next group of text is my next address. This is required.

The second is the resulting address, where the stuff exists now.

• http://egtworlds.com/mypage.php?type=website&webid= Text, can be anything
• $2 is the reference to the second (.*) value. Their position based.
• &webdesc= is another block of text
• $1 is the reference to the first (.*) value. Their position based.

The last text "[L]" is just a flag, it's not that necessary. In my case it means, stop redirecting after this line. This stops an infinite loop from happening.

Marketing gives my head a headache

Yes ladies and gentlemen, marketing sucks! ;(

Let's just say I thought I had a good idea with the exposure thing... Nop! Its a dude, now I have rethought my marketing strategy for 2 days and I'm still not to certain it will work...

If someone could invent a Marketing "Easy" button, I'd be grateful. Until then I'll be bruising my palms in all this marketing @$#%.

People, please... Don't find my errors.

A few bugs got pass the Beta, and they are fixed.

• Add a site - For god only knows, reasons. The Add A Site page would show the wrong page after you submitted your site. Instead of the page taking you to your site, you ended up in the wrong site. It would confuse and bother all of us. FIXED!
• Capatcha - Yes, God knows you all want to answer the capatcha repeatedly. Thanks to the me, the coder of the capatcha, it would make you repeat the symbols because of the "/" being one of the symbols. PHP in its infinite glory, thought that meant to display the character after it. Instead of DISPLAY BOTH. Fixed with much aggravation.
• Forumz - No one thought of this because every one was using the development version when we were in beta, but the Live Forumz went to the wrong site. Thus you thought you were not logged in and you would have logged in an infinite amount of time. Sorry! Fixed.

And for the good news, we just released are first marketing campaign. Or I should say, my first marketing campaign.

As you can tell it looks very simple, but that's the idea.

I want to encourage people to see the web in a new light, with EGT World's. I want to encourage you to see everything your site can be, to open up to the world's on a whole new level, to scream YES, I WILL!

Could we hire a janitor?

Well if EGT World's private server was an office, it would be in dire need of a janitorial staff. Just look at the loads of junk that can get deposited into a 10 gb hard drive. Yes the EGT World's website is running on a dedicated server box who's primary drive is all of 10 gb.

The EGT Worlds "Rated by" badge.

Okay, It's been a awfully long time since I promised anyone the ability to use widgets on there site. Major reasoning, I was over shooting widgets. I wanted them to include chat, comments, login, ... IDK, I guess I really wanted them to dance and sing me a ditty...

I was really shooting high on this project, So I figured what the hack to I have to loose by making the widget a small little image that shows you the sites current rating while providing a link back to the websites profile. Liking your site to a social network - where users can already comment, chat, login ... Dance and sing ditties...

This is just for this blog site, but you get the idea.

Of course you have to have verified your site before we give you access to this. Its our simple way of keeping you from putting a '5 star rating' on a '3 star rated site'. Make sense?

Looking forward to adding the code to copy from your My Accounts page. Then I'll make videos to help you experience the world of EGT World's.

We did some clean up and you get a sneak peak.

You may have noticed that Google and other Search Engine's may have problems looking at some of the EGT Worlds social content. Due to the fact that many of the profile header's are images and Google Can't read text in an image (rather they are to lazy). To make EGT Worlds look 10 times better and easier to access I took out the image headers and replaced them with text and the same sleek background image as before. Awww...

Oh you may have notice your MyAccount's page got a little bit of a facelift. It now includes your verified sites, which we all know are waiting for the ever developing widgets which will complete EGT Worlds. Ya, hold for applause.

Tired and Bellowing Smoke

We have all had the days where we get so tired and burnt out, we feel like smoke is coming out of our ears. And yes, I feel that way as well.

One of the things I have to start considering is Session State, and how its stored by php. I would love to have a session object that recognizes what computer you are on regardless of browser and the selected tab. Unfortunately, since companies "share" IP addresses and local networks get assigned random ones. I'm most likely gonna stick with a speciallized cokkie that all the widgets read and understand.

Mind as well reinvent the internet while I'm add it. Shades of green. Lol :)

Developing the Username Widget.

We are developing what appears to be a very small widget. A widget where we display the EGT world's user name, if the user is logged in. A example of the widget is shown on the second column on this very page.

Its simple, it just outputs the user name or "Guest (Log In)" as pure text. We are hoping to start adding a web presence widget, a website commenting widget, website rating application, an IM widget and whole slew of different widgets.

Including the possibility of getting the user name via server side code (like php, asp .net), kinda like OpenID. Only EGT World's would control the Log In and Authentication process. All you would have to do is store the user's settings under his/her username.

Kinda neat, but we are far from that. Since we are creating are widgets to intergrate well with your style, and making sure they are secure.

Introducing a Social Network for Websites - EGT Worlds

Hey everyone, I'm Justin Kazmierczak. Owner of the new site EGT Worlds.

It's not like most sites, search engines, web directories, or for that matter it is not a normal social network either. It’s a perfect blend of all the above, at least in theory.

EGT Worlds is the first social network designed to increase a website's appearance, communication, visibility, and social features. That is defiantly a mouth full, but don't count it out yet take a look at the new and exciting website. It will blow your socks away, and have your mouse beg for more... Okay that was a bit lame but you get the idea.

Let me walk you through some if its daring features and you can tell me what you think.

1. The first thing you will notice is the World's sleek design.
EGT Worlds was first designed by a guy from Away Back Designs, and as you can tell he did a pretty good job. After some tweaks from me, it was apparent that I'd have to take the style and mesh it into every page. A bit painstaking at first, but the results were fantastic.

2. It’s a Search Engine - of sorts.
EGT Worlds is sort of a search engine, designed to help you find what you need to find quickly. However its search engine capabilities do not rival that of Google, Yahoo, or for that matter any normal search engine site. The one ‘thing’ it has over any of ‘those’ search engines is its ability to have people comment and discuss the website. As well as allowing people to rate the searched website, right from the search results.

If I did not mention before, each search result comes with a sneak preview screenshot, which comes from my own special application that renders the browser in IE like format. I know you were hoping for a Firefox engine, not a Microsoft IE one. Eventually I'm goanna get a more web compliant browser for screenshots, but it was a lot easier for me to use IE than it was for me to recompile the Mozilla Fire Fox engine each time I want to make a 2 second line change.

3. Website and User Profiles - Yea a MySpace for My Web Space - ???
Okay, it seems a bit awkward to have a MySpace profile for a good looking and already market website. Right? Well if you are answering No, than great you'll love this part. Each Site added to the EGT World's database is given a profile where any EGT World user can comment and rate it. It's like having your own personal User Group, without the extra hassle and assorted problems.

If you answered yes, than you can simple wait for the developing Widgets to be released out of our development site. They are small lines of javascript that help integrate your website with EGT Worlds. For instance, someone finds your site from anywhere, like Google, they like what they see and then they see a section to paste comments and to rate this site. Right from my site? Yes. The user can say how Forshizel your site is, or how totally freak in' awesome it is. You can loath in awesomeness... that is if your users really find your site awesome.

4. Its completely, well almost completely, web 2.0 -ish.
EGT Worlds is web 2.0 (like), web standard compliant, CSS code is pristine clean, JavaScript uses Ajax (the widgets will use Ajax as well), and everyone is happy. It's a webmasters dream, a marketing tool that works for them and that screams, "My Marketing department finally has something to do (Yeah me)."
